4 Dog Parks in Pierce County

Now that the warm weather is here to stay in Pierce County, your dogs may be itching to get outside and socialize with other dogs. Taking your pup to the dog park is a great way for your dog to get exercise, as well as for you to spend quality time with your dog. Here are the top 4 dog parks in Pierce County.

Wapato Off Leash Dog Park

Address: 6241 S. Wapato Lake Dr. Tacoma, WA 98408

The off leash dog park is well located for those living or driving through south Tacoma. Wapato Dog Park has a total of four different areas for your dogs to play. This is especially helpful if your dog is shy or only wants to play with you at the dog park. In the upper dog park, there are also several trails to walk your dog. Finally, there is a water station with several bowls so you pups won’t get dehydrated while running around the dog park.

Point Defiance Off Leash Dog Park

Address: 5400 N. Pearl St. Tacoma, WA 98407

Point Defiance Dog Park is located along the historic five-mile drive in Point Defiance and is one of the most popular dog parks in Pierce County. This park has a designated small dog area as well as the general off leash area. This is an advantage for both small and large dogs so there isn’t a chance of a small dog getting frightened by a large dog. The park has hills for days, so it’s great if your dog likes to train on hills! Caution: one side of the dog park is only “fenced” by a hill, not an actual fence, so if your dog is an escape artist I would keep an eye on them while you visit this park.

Hounds Hollow Dog Park

Address: 19001 Cascadia Boulevard East, Bonney Lake, WA 98391

Sometimes it can seem like a real hassle to find a new place around Bonney Lake to take your dog. Not many people are aware of this dog park, but right up the hill in Tehaleh, lies a perfect dog park. The Hounds Hollow Dog Park is tucked back in the trees a bit, and is especially convenient for the residents of Tehaleh. There are two distinct sides of the dog park, one is a field for running and fetching and the other is an agility course; great for teaching your dog new tricks! This hidden gem is truly one of the well maintained dog parks in Pierce County.

Fort Steilacoom Dog Park

Address: 8714 87th Ave SW, Lakewood, WA 98498

Fort Steilacoom dog park spans acres of running area while providing benches throughout the park so it’s easy for the owners to take a break. This allows the perfect amount of room to let your pup run roam while still being able to watch from a bench. The only thing to watch out for is mud puddles after it rains. This could mean a bath every time your dog comes to the dog park, which may not be what you’re looking for. Overall, in the sunshine, this park is full of happy dogs and makes for a great outing for you and your pup.
