Guild Employee Spotlight – Katrina Rew

Interviewer: What is your position?

Katrina Rew: I am a loan officer assistant on Michael Fornerette’s Team at Guild Mortgage Tacoma. I focus on taking loans from lead to pre-approval.

I: What’s your favorite part of your job?

KR: My favorite part about being a loan officer assistant is helping clients make their dreams a reality. I work with many buyers who initially come to us hesitant and worried that they don’t qualify for a loan. We work with them through the entire process until they are able to buy a home. I love getting to be a part of making home buyers’ wishes come to life!

I: Is there a specific instance where you helped a family buy a home you can think of?

KR: The first example that comes to mind happened a little over a year ago. A husband and wife came to me inquiring about buying a home. The wife had some credit mishaps, so we were looking for a way to use only the husband’s credit to qualify for the loan. He didn’t have much credit history, so our goal with him was to build strong credit as fast as possible. About 5 months later, on their wedding anniversary, I told them the news that they were able to qualify for a loan! And 3 months after that they were closing. It’s families like this one that make me realize how special my job is.

I: What advice do you have for first time home buyers?

KR: The biggest piece of advice that I have for first time home buyers is to be upfront with information. Sometimes clients feel nervous telling us some confidential information, thinking we might judge them. The sooner clients reveal their situations, the sooner we can help find a solution. Just like the doctor, it’s better for us to know about any road bumps ahead of time so we can get ahead of it.

I: Should home buyers check in with you every year regarding their loan?

KR: Absolutely! So many things change from year to year – interest rate, home values, etc., so it’s good to regularly go over options. If home buyers qualify for a refinance and it’s a good idea to do so, we want to help put some money back into the home buyer’s pocket. This can then be used to pay down debt, college loans, and other expenses pertaining to the home buyer.

I: What are your 1-3 year goals?

KR: My main goal for the rest of this year is to continue learning in my position. If you stop learning, you stop growing. I really want to focus on learning more about the second half of the loan process, which consists of everything after pre-approval to close. Within the next 3 years, my goal is to become a loan officer.

I: What do you like to do in your spare time?

KR: I really enjoy going to the comedy club, going out to eat, and hanging out with friends. My boyfriend and I are planning a trip to the Bahamas during the holidays, and potentially a trip to Key West next year!
