If home just isn’t where the heart is anymore, it may be time to start the next chapter of your life in a new home. You may not like the cramped room, or you may have too much room since your kids have moved out. Since home is where you spend a majority of your time, you deserve to love the space you live in. Here are 4 signs it’s time to move on to another home.
Signs It’s Time to Move
Your house is too small
If you are one of those buyers who buy a small home so you can get their foot into the home equity door, you may find that when you expand your family, your house is simply too small. When you have 5 kids and 3 bedrooms, it’s hard to justify staying in the cramped space. Additionally, you may find that you have to park your car in the driveway every night since your garage is full of stuff you don’t have space for anywhere else in the house. If this sounds like a familiar way of life, it may be time to find a bigger home.
Your house is too big
When your 3 kids move out of the house, you may find yourself wondering what to do with your 5-bedroom home. It’s common for those who feel they have too big of a house to try to buy things to fill up the extra space. Additionally, you’re probably getting tired of dusting rooms that are never used, and paying for heat for rooms that are rarely slept in. If this sounds all too familiar, downsizing could be the answer.
You don’t like your neighborhood
A desire for a certain type of neighborhood (that you don’t currently have) is one of the biggest signs it’s time to move. As people go through different phases of their life, they want different neighborhoods. When you’re young and just out of college, you may want to be in a city with a booming nightlife. When you decide to settle down and have kids, you are likely looking for a neighborhood with good schools and that is relatively safe. Decide what’s important to you and add those things to the priority list for your next home.
You want to upgrade without remodeling
Remodeling is a great way to personalize your space, but it’s not for everyone. Wanting to install another bedroom or bathroom can be extremely costly, especially if your house is already at the top of the market in your area, so you wouldn’t be able to recoup the cost when you sell. Additionally, any large renovation is a ton of work that some don’t have time or energy for. In these cases, it makes more sense just to move.
