Downtown Waterfront

With a wide variety of stores and unique boutiques, the downtown waterfront area of Gig Harbor offers a fun shopping experience for locals and tourists alike. Consider checking out the Gig Harbor Book Company if reading is your passion, Ship to Shore Marine and Kayak if you need to stock up on marine supplies, or Birdnest Gallery and Framing if you enjoy browsing local fine art. There is even a haven for your furry friends at Green Cottage Pets. You’re sure to have a one of a kind shopping experience, accompanied by a view in the quaint downtown waterfront area of Gig Harbor, as you spend time downtown.

Harbor History Museum

The mission of the Harbor History Museum is to create opportunities to experience the heritage of the greater Gig Harbor communities. Their collections number more than 29,000 artifacts, images and archival material. The material dates from the mid 1800’s to near present day. Upcoming exhibits include Curtis Comes Back to Seattle: Re-discovering Edward Sheriff Curtis and Native American Culture in the Pacific Northwest. This is part of the Humanities in the Harbor Series that explores engaging topics for the Gig Harbor community. The 90-minute film will be followed by a 30-minute discussion with the filmmaker.

Cushman Trail

Cushman Trail is one of the top things for military families to do in Gig Harbor, Washington. This 6.2 mile regional trail is a paved, non-motorized route for pedestrian and bike use. On the path you’ll see beautiful wild flowers as well as many different bird species. This is a great trail for dogs, stroller bikers and runners. If you do decide to visit Cushman Trail, consider visiting earlier in the day as the parking lot fills up quickly.

Skansie Brothers Park and Nutshed

Skansie Brothers Park and Nutshed is a waterfront green space with community events such as concerts, farmer’s markets, and festivals in the summertime. There are a few four person tables on ground level which are great for enjoying a family picnic. This park is walking distance from all the restaurants and stores in downtown Gig Harbor. You’ll also notice a nice view of the boats and yachts of Gig Harbor from Skansie Brothers Park and Nutshed.
